H&S Management System Review (GAP Analysis)

The distance between the policy and what actually happens on site.

An independent review of your health and safety management system against HSG65, the HSE's own publication on managing for health and safety. It tests whether your arrangements are adequate to meet statutory requirements, best practice and your own standards.

What we do

Four stages. First, a document review covering management structure, responsibility charts, policies and procedures, compliance documents, monitoring and inspection records, the training matrix, contractor management documentation and accident records. You get the document list in advance. Second, interviews with key staff to understand the safety implications of your activities and culture, and how the policies are actually applied and managed. Third, sample site audits at pre-arranged departments, managed sites or activities, to witness how effective the controls really are. Fourth, analysis, report production and presentation.

What you get

  • A written headline report, presented face to face
  • Summary of findings and positive findings
  • The gap analysis itself
  • A RAG-rated prioritised action plan built around workable, business-led solutions
  • Recommendations for achieving and maintaining continual improvement

Why it matters

The review asks how far your system is an integral part of workplace actions, behaviours, attitudes and culture, rather than whether the documents exist. A system that reads well and is not followed is the gap most organisations have and the one an investigation finds.

Why Vantify

Findings presented in person, and strengths recorded alongside gaps, so the report is usable with a board rather than only with a safety team.
