A general risk assessment covers the general duty. Manual handling, DSE, COSHH, lone working, PPE, first aid and workplace transport each carry their own regulations, and each needs its own assessment by a competent person.
What we do

Manual handling against MHOR 1992 and the avoid, assess, reduce hierarchy, taking account of the individual and psychosocial factors. DSE against the Display Screen Equipment Regulations, covering documentation review and physical inspection of the workstation. Hazardous substances under COSHH, covering exposure, duration, who else is affected and what further action is needed. Lone working and personal safety, including violence, wellbeing and medical suitability. PPE under the 1992 Regulations, using the hierarchy of controls. First aid needs assessment. Workplace transport, covering site, vehicles, drivers and pedestrians. And general work activity assessments where a specific task warrants one.

Why it matters
Where a consultant cannot see physical evidence that a control exists, they raise an action to provide it. Documented records are what an enforcing officer asks for, and an assessment that assumes a control is in place is worth very little when it is not.
