Environmental and Legal Register Audit (ISO 14001)

Five stages. We define the audit objectives and identify the relevant legal framework, national, local and industry-specific. We review the legal register itself, verifying that regulatory updates and amendments have been incorporated, and cross-checking the legal requirements against your operations and impact areas. We then conduct an on-site survey or desktop documentation review, examining how you comply in practice through internal policies, procedures and records covering waste disposal, emissions control and water usage, and inspecting permits, licences, monitoring reports and regulatory filings. We identify compliance gaps by analysing the discrepancies between the register and actual operational practice, and assess the risk exposure. Finally we develop corrective actions and mitigation measures aligned to your sustainability goals.

ISO 14001 expects organisations to evaluate their compliance with legal and other requirements, not just to hold a register. An independently audited register gives external validation, identifies gaps before a certification body does, and provides documented evidence of compliance effort if a dispute ever arises.
